GENERAL INFORMATION

 

The Graduate Program in Geography (GPG) of the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) started in March 1985 with the Master program and in 1999 with the Doctorate degree. Both levels include activities in teaching, research and extension, being grouped in of two Areas of Concentration: Regional and Urban Development (RUD) and Use and Conservation of Natural Resources (UCNR).

 

SCOPE

The trajectory of GPG/UFSC is related not only to the training of future Masters and Doctors, but also to the quality and quantity of academic products that have been offered to the technical and scientific communities, to the various levels of geographic education (from elementary to graduate schools) and also to its presence in community segments in Santa Catarina, other states, regions of Brazil and internationally.

 

The Master program

The Master program emphasizes the scientific competence, contributing to the training of academics and researchers. It has a minimum duration of 12 months and a maximum of 24 months. To grant a Master degree the GPG requires a minimum of 24 credits, 18 of them obtained in presential courses and supervised activities, and six credits for the master thesis.

 

The Doctoral degree

The Doctoral degree provides a broad scientific or cultural training, allowing the student to develop research capacity and creativity in different branches of knowledge. It has a minimum duration of 24 months and maximum 48 months. The GPG requires for the degree of Doctor at least 48 credits, being 36 obtained in presential courses and supervised activities and 12 credits for the doctoral thesis.

 

OBJECTIVES

The Graduate Program in Geography of the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina aims to provide a high-level training and improvement of academics, researchers and professionals committed to the advancement of geographical knowledge, as well as to promote the development of scientific research.
